The Ephorate of Antiquities of Aitoloakarnania and Lefkada constitutes a Regional Service of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, based in the Iera Polis of Mesolonghi; its territorial jurisdiction extends in Aitoloakarnania, which is the largest Regional Unit in our country, and on the island of Lefkada.
It manages several monuments (cities, acropoleis, theatres, fortresses, burial monuments, sanctuaries, etc.) dating from Prehistoric Times to the 19th century, and four museums.
Leading operational objectives of our Ephorate are the discovery and excavation of antiquities, their scientific study and publication, their protection and management and in general their enhancement and exhibition in museums, as well as the preservation, conservation, restoration, enhancement and promotion of the cultural reserve of Aitoloakarnania and Lefkada.
Our activity includes the administrative duties of providing services toward citizens and other public bodies, the implementation of the current legislation on the protection of antiquities, as well as various events in our monuments and museums, along with educational programmes. Also, the participation of our scientific staff in international conferences, the organisation of temporary exhibitions and international conferences by the Ephorate and its participation in exhibitions abroad with significant exhibits, as well as the production of scientific and other publications are included within the framework of the enhancement and promotion of cultural heritage.
The Ephorate is a Regional Service of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports seated in Ancient Olympia. It was founded and operates since 2014 with territorial jurisdiction in the Prefecture of Ilia, constituting the successor Service of the former 7th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities and the 6th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities which were abolished.
The scientific research, discovery, preservation, protection and promotion of the rich cultural heritage of the area, as well as the display and preservation of the antiquities, their exhibition in museums and its presentation in exhibitions at home and abroad are some of the goals of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia. In addition, our Ephorate is in charge of the study, planning, management and execution of any archaeological project for the preservation, restoration, consolidation and enhancement of the monuments and archaeological sites of Ilia, which date from the Prehistoric Period to the establishment of the Greek state.
The experienced staff of our Service participates in international and European programs, organizes and participates in workshops, conferences, events and educational activities on issues related to the responsibilities of the Ephorate and ensures the production of publications and educational material for dissemination of the archaeological knowledge to experts and to the public.
It is a Regional Service of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, founded in 2014. Its headquarters are in Igoumenitsa.
The Ephorate is the only competent authority that can carry out works in archaeological sites and monuments of Thesprotia, dating from prehistoric times until 1830 and also responsible for the protection, conservation and exhibition of the movable archaeological finds from the area.
Its responsibilities include: Conducting rescue archaeological excavations either on private plots or during the implementation of municipal, regional and public technical projects; The study, planning and execution of restoration, shaping and promotion of monuments and archaeological sites of Thesprotia and their immediate environment; Τhe curation of the permanent exhibition of antiquities at the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa and the organization of periodic exhibitions, events, workshops, conferences and educational activities that promote cultural heritage to scientists, public and the local community; Τhe management of the archaeological sites of Thesprotia and the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa; Τhe scientific study and publication of the antiquities of Thesprotia and the production of printed and digital publications, as well as other information and educational material for the cultural heritage of the region.
The Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu is a Regional Service of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports. Its area of responsibility extends into the Regional Union of Corfu (Corfu Island, Paxoi, Antipaxoi and Diapontia Islands).
The competence of the Ephorate extends to all matters relating to the conservation, protection and preservation of antiquities dating from prehistory to 1830, the scientific research, the promotion of antiquities, and their display in museums, the study, planning, management and execution of any archaeological project for the maintenance, repair and restoration of monuments and archaeological sites, the management of the monuments and archaeological sites, museums and collections, in its area of responsibility and the protection of the Old Town of Corfu, World Heritage Monument.
The Department is responsible of the regional development and execution of tourism policies, strategies and action plans (Regional Master Plan of Tourism: Puglia 365, Regional Master Plan for Culture PIIIL). It is responsible for ROP Puglia 2014-20, specific objectives that concern valorization of cultural heritage (museums, archaeological sites, libraries) and support to cultural activities.
The Department is in charge with specific functions such as: valorisation of artistic, historic and architectural heritage; touristic valorisation; territorial cooperation in these fields; promotion of culture and cultural events; increasing the attractivity of Puglia sites and carrying on territorial marketing policies.
It is the most important example in southern Italy of growth of sustainable tourism and it is responsible of Italian Regions for the IV Pillar Tourism in Macroregion Adriatic Ionian strategy.
