CoHeN is a strategic project funded by the Interreg Greece-Italy 2014/2020 Programme that aims to promote cultural tourism through the valorization of the Adriatic-Ionian Coastal Route by creating a network of historic built heritage hallmarks across the cross-border area.
As the two of the area’s strengths and drivers of economic growth are cultural heritage and tourism industry, the main objectives of the project are to increase the attractiveness of involved territories by defining a common heritage management model; to strengthen participatory processes, involving the public bodies, the private stakeholders of culture and tourism sectors and the local communities; to enhance the visitors’ experience by regenerating the historical aura of the involved areas, in a sustainable way.
The project includes initiatives to involve the operators of each region in a plan shared with the local administrations for the management and enhancement of the sites and the connected cultural routes, to be started at the end of the restoration and re-functionalization works.
For this reason, Puglia Region has launched a public notice for the collection of artistic-cultural projects for the enhancement and audience engagement, which can accompany local communities in living the transformation of the monuments affected by the project.
The result is a program of cultural events with free admission, called Culture in Cammino, that will give new light to these monuments and the related territories:
