😎Have you already decided where to spend your # 😎Have you already decided where to spend your #holidays?
If you plan to visit #Salento, the southernmost part of #Puglia Region, do not miss the small town of #Ugento, where you can visit one of the #CoHeN project monuments.

1️⃣5️⃣THE SAN GIOVANNI TOWER
The events related to the settlement of this building tell of a very ancient history… This is demonstrated by the archaeological remains of the Messapian walls, dating back to 500 BC. The location of the San Giovanni Tower was in fact an important maritime landing place, but also an important strategic defense of this specific stretch of coast.

The Tower, which is the only octagonal coastal tower in Puglia, at the base houses an octagonal cistern with a string course and an octagonal first floor with a balustrade and protruding ledges. Inside there is a fresco of San Giovanni from which the place takes its name.

🏝Welcome back weekend! If you are in #Corfu the 🏝Welcome back weekend! If you are in #Corfu these days, you cannot miss a visit to this beautiful monument of #CoHeN project...

1️⃣4️⃣ KASSIOPI CASTLE
The town of #Kassiopi, in the northeastern part of #CorfuIsland, due to its favorable geographical position was the second most important town of the island during the #Roman period.
The invasion of the #Goths in 551 AD caused significant damages to the town, which flourished during the Byzantine period.
The castle was erected probably in the between of 12thand 13th centuries. It was built on a rocky hill over the town of Kassiopi and protected both the town and its port, while at the same time it controlled the narrow sea passage between Corfu and the opposite coast.

🏖Have you already planned your holidays? If you 🏖Have you already planned your holidays? If you are thinking of visiting Greece, the monuments of #CoHeN project are waiting to be discovered!

Today we talk about:
1️⃣3️⃣THE VONITSA CASTLE
It is located on the top of a tree-lined hill in the west of the modern city, near the shores of the Amvrakikos Gulf, 9-12 km east of Aktio airport and the city of Preveza.
It was built in the early Byzantine period: already from this period, Vonitsa was an important fortified city and functions as a basic trade center between Acarnania and Epirus, as an important naval station, but also as a seat of Bishop.
Variety in the form of the castle walls and towers suggests various building phases, of different eras and influences, covering the entire history of fortifications from the Byzantine era to the late Ottoman occupation.
